What owners report
On r/coldplunge, Nordic Wave threads cut both ways.
- Positive. Several owners report a year or more with no chiller issues. One describes a Gen 2 chiller running with zero problems after more than a year.
- Chiller failures. A July 2025 thread describes a “1H” error code after about a year, which another commenter identifies as a shorted temperature sensor. The owner objected to the $250 shipping fee for warranty work. Other brand-level threads describe chillers failing within a year, and one commenter reports a neighbor on a fifth chiller in three months.
- Quick replacements. Some owners describe Nordic Wave shipping a replacement chiller quickly and without dispute.
Most failure reports don’t name a specific Viking model. Treat them as brand-level signal.
A note on Nordic Wave’s own content
Nordic Wave hosts a page on its own site about a competitor, The Cold Life, alleging fake reviews and warranty problems. When you research cold plunge brands, check who published any “exposed” or “scam” page. A competitor’s write-up is not an independent source, whichever brand wrote it.
Before you buy
- Budget the $250 shipping fee for any chiller warranty claim.
- Use only Nordic Wave-approved filters. Using others voids the warranty.
- Follow the winterization steps if you live somewhere that freezes. Freeze damage is excluded.
- Pay by credit card.
