Is Plunge a Scam? What the Public Record Shows

Plunge is a real, operating company that ships the products it sells. It also has the largest complaint record of the eight established brands I reviewed. Plunge holds an F rating from the BBB, with 51 complaints in the last three years and 35 in the last 12 months. Most complaints are about chiller and filter housing failures and how warranty claims get handled, not about orders that never arrive.

I’m not issuing a verdict here. Below is the public record, checked against our Pre-Purchase Scam Checklist, so you can decide for yourself.

What the complaints say

I read the most recent BBB complaints and the long-running r/coldplunge thread on Plunge. Four themes repeat.

• Repeated filter housing leaks. Several 2026 BBB complaints describe the same part failing more than once on All-In units.
• Chiller replacements, sometimes more than once. Owners describe second and third chillers within two years of purchase. The Reliability Index data shows the same pattern.
• Filter purchase history used in warranty decisions. Multiple owners report Plunge questioning their filter records when reviewing a chiller claim. In one August 2026 case, Plunge later reversed the denial and covered the repair.
• Disputes over extended protection plans. Plunge sells plans that a third party administers. In several 2026 complaints, Plunge said coverage decisions belonged to the plan administrator. Buyers said they were sent back and forth between the two companies.

How Plunge responds

Plunge answers most BBB complaints, often at length and sometimes through its legal team. In some cases it approved free repairs after review. In others it held to its position that the factory warranty had expired and the buyer’s path was the third-party plan. Nineteen of the 51 complaints went unanswered.

Other items in the record

• A plaintiffs’ law firm advertised on social media that it was investigating Plunge’s discount advertising. That is an investigation notice, not a lawsuit. I found no filed case.
• Competitor Morozko Forge publishes a post naming Plunge in a piece about industry “rip-offs.” That is a competitor’s view, not an independent source.

Before you buy

1. Confirm the 1-year warranty covers the specific chiller you’re buying.
2. If you buy an extended plan, get in writing who decides claims and who pays the technician.
3. Keep receipts for every filter you buy, from any seller.
4. Pay by credit card.
